Now that the minority Parti qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois<\/i> government has been handily defeated by a healthy Liberal win, Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Jim Beis wants the 440 extension project back on the table. <\/p>\n

Like the Train de l’ouest<\/i> project, the 440 extension had been given the green light by the previous Liberal government but as soon as Pauline Marois and the PQ took over the reins of power, both projects were immediately shelved. <\/p>\n

With a potential of thousands of homes to be built in the borough, the new 440 extension could bring up to 30,000 new residents for Pierrefonds-Roxboro. “This project would increase our population by 50 per cent, bringing us to about 100,000 citizens,” Beis told The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n

With the new 440 extension, the new homes could be built, bringing in new infrastructure, water and sewage as well as street lights to the new area. “Without the extension, we cannot go ahead with the development as the new residents would have to drive about 45 minutes just to get to Highway 40 which would make no sense,” said Beis.<\/p>\n

Now that the Liberal Party has a majority government, Beis is expecting to speak to Premier Philippe Couillard and the new transportation ministry on the issue very soon. <\/p>\n

“I’ve already written to Mr. Couillard congratulating him on his decisive victory,” said Beis. “I also reminded him that 18 months ago, the 440 extension was on the books.” <\/p>\n
