Laval resident Sabrina Abbate earned $20,000 in winning second prize laurels among the 15 Canadians who competed in this year\u2019s Big Brother television game show. The second season of the series wound up 71 days of competition May 8.<\/p>\n

The group of contestants, referred to as houseguests, lived in isolation from the outside world in a custom built residence, under constant video surveillance for the entire 71 days.<\/p>\n

Only three contenders remained by the last episode: Jon Pardy, 23 from Clarenville, Nfld., Neda Kalentar, 22 from Vancouver and Laval\u2019s own Sabrina Abbate, 25.<\/p>\n

With only one round left Pardy chose not to save Kalentar, leaving only Pardy and Abbate to fight it out in the last hour.<\/p>\n

How it worked<\/b>

<\/b>
\nOne houseguest, known as the head of household, had the task of nominating two of their fellow houseguests for eviction. The winner of the power of veto could then save one of the nominees, forcing the head of household to name a replacement nominee.<\/p>\n

The houseguests then vote to evict one of the nominees, with the houseguest who received the most votes being evicted from the house. When only two houseguests remained, the previously evicted houseguests decided which of them would win the grand prize.<\/p>\n

Strategies, personalities and inner teams begin to form after some time in the house making for interesting action and drama. Jon Pardy won the top, $100,000 prize for the 2014 season.
