Teenagers and young adults who see warnings that social media could harm their health, are discouraged from using it.

A study published in the medical journal JAMA Health Forum reports that when 13-to-29-year-olds are shown messages about how social media is unsafe and can cause addiction, negative body image, sleep disruption, depression, anxiety, overall mental health harm, respond by using it less.

Senior author Dr. Thomas Robinson of Stanford University says that without the educative messages, social media breaks were less effective.
