Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute researchers say that just one sugar-laden soda a day can lead to a higher risk of developing stomach cancer.

The groundbreaking study says it is the high fructose corn syrup in soft drinks, energy drinks and fruit juices more than double the risk for the cancer.

Gastric cancer is the fifth-leading cause of cancer death worldwide.

Nearly two-thirds of adults drink these beverages daily.

High fructose corn syrup is also used in processed and packaged foods, baked goods, condiments and cereals.
