A private funeral service has been held for murdered Montreal police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, at the Islamic Centre of Quebec in St. Laurent. The family wanted a private ceremony for their loved one, but Montreal police say plans are underway for a public civic ceremony in a few weeks, to honor his life and service.

Family and community members have bid adieu to 68-year-old Michel Moshe Mizrahi, who died in the shootout in Côte des Neiges.

University of Ottawa criminology professor Justin Piché says that there is not a trend in police shootings in Canada; citing data on Canadian police deaths from the past 64 years which shows that the number of on-duty cop fatalities this year remains within historical levels and that there is data which shows that policing has generally been safer than in past decades.

Montrealers have celebrated the annual Je t’aime Québec St. Jean Baptiste parade with thousands of celebrants honoring this year’s theme—the power of collectivity—aimed to highlight the values that unite Quebecers: dignity, equality, solidarity, language, culture, honouring heritage and anticipating the future.

CAA Quebec says that we are at the beginning of the most dangerous time of the year on the roads: the period between La Fête nationale and Labor day, when the majority of motorists die (100 last year) because of speed, alcohol and distracted driving. Director André Durocher notes “…normally, people on vacation tend to cram in a lot of activities, because there’s only two or three weeks off.”

Sûreté du Québec Major Crimes detectives have charged 18-year-old Bryin Canadian Whitebean with first-degree murder in connection with a homicide in Kanesatake, where the body of a young man was discovered in the septic tank at a former school in the community in May.
