Pelvic procedure preserves fertility during radiation therapy

The McGill University Health Centre has performed a uterine procedure for the first time in Canada, offering a fertility-preservation option for women undergoing pelvic radiation therapy.

Developed and performed by gynecologic oncologist Dr. Reitan Ribeiro, it involves moving the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes from the pelvis to the upper abdomen, thus protecting the organs from radiation.
