Widespread willingness consider eating insects

Nearly half of survey respondents indicated openness to savouring bugs.

Do you find caterpillars, ants, maybe spiders tasty?

A student from Concordia university has determined disgust is a major barrier to consuming insects but some see it as an option.

She says that many people feel insects are dirty or dangerous, noting that some people have cultural reasons and others are simply fearful and that “…there is still an emotional reaction that can remain very strong.”

Nadezhda Velchovska, an undergrad in the Department of Psychology has surveyed 252 people at the Montreal Insectarium.

44 per cent were open to the possibility: 18% had already done the deed; and 26% were willing to munch.
