Laval’s municipal employees raised more than $70,000 in their annual Red Cross fundraiser. The amount was revealed recently at the closing ceremony by honorary president Duvernay, Councillor Stéphane Boyer and two city employees who are considered godmothers of the cause, Scarlett and Melody Van Blaeren.
The additional $15,000 raised above the original goal set for the campaign of $55,000 made this year a record breaker.
Employees of the City of Laval have far exceeded the target of $ 55,000 by raising $ 70,569, which is the highest amount raised since the beginning of the campaign, in 1988. Funds raised will be awarded to the Canadian Red Cross, Quebec Division, and will enable the organization to help families of Laval disaster victims by providing them with physical as well as moral support.
The campaign has become one of the most significant employee campaigns in Laval’s workplace.
During the closing ceremony Boyer thanked all donors and paid special tribute to all the volunteers who made the campaign a success. Donors included Sunwing Canada, Servier Canada Inc., Clarins and Ideal Location.
Fund raising activities consisted of hot dog days at City Hall, the Nature Centre, the municipal garage and police headquarters.
Another favourite event was Jean Thursdays where jeans were permitted at the cost of two dollars.
