Tons of used books will be sold at the annual Laval libraries’ huge sale at the Cartier Arena at Montée Major in Laval des Rapides. The popular event offers books, magazines, CDs, DVDs at $3 a kilo, so bring your bags and boxes.

The annual sale of second-hand books and documents lets Laval libraries liquidate some books and periodicals from their collections to make room for new selections. Along with additional donations of books and periodicals made by the citizens, the sale promises a broad selection. Children’s books and comics are usually some of the first to sell out.
According to Laval communication advisor, Sophie Guilbault, library officials never really know how many books will be received but they expect upwards of 50,000.
“A good portion of our books are English,” Guilbault told The Suburban in an interview. “We used to receive books in many languages but now we only have English and French.”
As in previous years, the Friends of the Library, a non-profit support organization will open the doors an hour earlier to its members on Friday, May 8.
The libraries reinvest profits will be donated to their cultural programs. The city of Laval has prearranged to give unsold books to a number of local organizations.
Profits received during the sale are reinvested in the cultural program of the libraries. Once the sale is completed, unsold books will be offered to organizations recognized by the City of Laval, on prearranged terms.
The opening hours are: Friday, May 8, from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, May 9, from 9-4 p.m. Only cash and Interac will be accepted for payments.
