The West Island Community Shares’ 2014-2015 fundraising year will come to an end next Tuesday but the non-profit agency that provides much needed financial support for 38 West Island agencies is still $50,000 shy of its $1.2 million goal.

WICS is appealing to the community to help with the final fundraising push and Ste. Anne de Bellevue based company Tenaquip has agreed to match all donations with a $20,000 offer as a cap.

For executive director Caroline Tison, the idea of not achieving the $1.2 million “could have a major impact on the groups we support. Some would have to turn away residents in need or even close some vital programs.

“We know West Islanders would want to protect these vital services, so we’re reaching out to them for help,” Tison added noting that one in five West Island residents seek help from the 38 non-profit agencies under the WICS umbrella every year. “For some groups, the funding represents as much as 56 percent of their budget.”
