Louise Lecavalier will interpret her latest dance sequence, the Maison Des Arts on Feb. 28. Step out of the cold and allow Lecavalier to express her first evening-length dance, entirely of her own choreographic devising.

So Blue, first unveiled in December 2012 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The 60-minute work begins with a solo by Lecavalier. Then, half way through, she’s joined by Montreal-based, French ballet-trained dancer Frédéric Tavernini for an extended duet.

Originally associated with the La La La Human Steps from 1981 to 1999, Cavalier embodied extreme dance and marked the imagination of a generation. She became an international star, in 1985, the first Canadian to win New York’s top dance award, a Bessie. Lecavalier went on to appear in concert and film with musicians Frank Zappa and David Bowie.

Lecavalier is a winner of the 29th Grand Prix of the Arts Council of Montreal and one of the winners of the 2014 Governor General’s Award for Performing Arts and winner of the prestigious dance award Massine 2013.

Lecavalier founded her company, Fou Glorieux, in 2006 where she has continued her research into the power and vulnerability of the body. After taking her productions Children and A Few Minutes of Lock to the four corners of the world, Lecavalier’s colourful choreograph So Blue will visit Laval. So Blue is an intense work with visceral music by Mercan Dede.

Tickets are on sale for $32, seniors $26 and students $25. More information can be found at maisondesarts@laval.ca or by calling [450] 662-4440.
