The Laval Library in collaboration with the Friends of the Library have installed the first vending machine for slightly used books. Located at 3235 St. Martin Boulevard East, the Pavillon du bois Papineau offers the 130,000 yearly visitors a wide selection of books at the low price of $2.
According to Laval’s communications advisor, Sophie Guilbault approximately 20 per cent of the books are available in English.
“The books are donated so we cannot always predict the content,” Guilbault told The Suburban, “We hope to grow the collection.”
All the books in the collection, which vary from bestsellers, biographies and children’s books, have been donated by the Friends of the Library and citizens.
All proceeds from sales will be donated to the Laval Youth Centre. If the pilot project is successful, other vending machines could appear elsewhere in the territory of Laval.
