What school board list are you on?

Voters have until Oct. 14 to make sure they are registered on the school board list of their choice for the upcoming Nov. 2, school board elections—French-language Marguerite Bourgeoys (CSMB) or English-language school board, Lester B. Pearson (LBPSB).

Contrary to popular belief, paying school taxes does not necessarily mean you are paying taxes to the school board of your choice nor does it mean you are automatically registered to the board of your choice.

How it works:

Parents with children

If you have one or more children enrolled in the French-language or English-language school board serving your place of domicile, you will be registered in that school board.

Adults without children

If you do not have children enrolled in the French-language or English-language school board serving your domicile, you will automatically be entered on the list of electors of the French-language school board where your domicile is located.

If you wish to vote in the English-language school board having jurisdiction over the territory in which your domicile is located, you must submit an application to the director general of this school board and, during an election period, to the returning officer before Oct. 14.

How do I find out which list I am on?

It’s easy: Elections Quebec has provided a toll-free telephone number 1-888-353-2846 that you can call to find out which school board election you are registered to vote in.

If you have been defaulted to the French school board list and wish to be on the English school board list forms are available on the LBPSB website www.lbpsb.qc.ca.

Simply click on Voter Transfer Form at the bottom left of the home page, fill in the form and return it to director general Robert T. Mills at 1925 Brookdale, Dorval H9P 2Y7.

If you show up to vote and your name isn’t on the list, you won’t be able to cast a ballot.
