Harpell Park in Ste. Anne de Bellevue welcomed 36 participants in the first edition of Yoga for NOVA fundraiser held Saturday, Sept. 13.

Cynthia Maher, certified instructor, and Hudson resident lead the class, shortly after 10 a.m. in a one hour course, where a $10 minimum donation was requested.

“I was very pleased with the participation and generous donations Nova West Island received through one hour of yoga to support those in need. Yoga for Nova is a way to give back to society and ourselves at the same time. I call it Karma Yoga.”

“In essence it’s being able to open our hearts for the greater good. Everything we do and every action we take is Karma. So the person that’s being helped is going to want to return the favor by helping someone else and so on and so forth,” Maher told The Suburban.

“We had 36 yogis, who raised awareness of our programs, and services, with $500 that raised our profile as a healthcare organization.

“We could not have asked for more,” said, Marie-France Juneau, NOVA executive director.

NOVA West Island is a not-forprofit, volunteer-driven, community-based healthcare organization with more than a century of providing comprehensive, compassionate, quality care to vulnerable individuals in the community. The primary mandate is to provide specialized care and support in the home to cancer and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) clients during the course of the illness and particularly in the palliative stage.
