Gas station attendant foils holdup

Laval Police are looking for a 55-year-old man who tried to rob a St. Vincent du Paul gas station.

“The suspect approached the sales clerk at 830 Vanier holding a plastic bag containing a bottle of beer in his left hand and said ‘This is a robbery. Give me the money,’” Sgt. Frédéric Jean told The Suburban.

“The clerk remained calm and said ‘No,’” Sgt. Jean continued. “The suspect replied ‘I have a gun in my backpack’. The clerk pointed at the security camera behind him and said ‘If you have a gun, you have to show me, because my boss says that you have to show it to me before I give you money.’”

“The suspect is 5’4” tall, weighs 135 lbs and was wearing a read ball cap and red t-shirt and carried a black backpack,” he said, adding that Laval Police plan to seek the public’s help in identifying the alleged perpetrator by posting security camera photos to its Facebook page this week.

Two injured in parking dispute

Pierre Olivier Larivière, 27, and Mutraza Hussainy, 23, face assault charges after a parking dispute got out of hand at 5090 Notre Dame, near Highway 13 in Chomedey, Aug. 27.

“There had been an ongoing dispute between two tenants,” explained Sgt. Jean. “At around 2 p.m. that day, [Larivière] was trying to leave with his car but another car was blocking the exit. After he honked, the owner of that vehicle came out of his apartment and an argument ensued. [Larivière] got in his car and tried to move it, hitting the other car lightly.

Infuriated, [Hussainy], a friend of the owner of the second car, started hitting [Larrivière’s] car with his hands, eventually breaking the windshield. [Larivière] tried to move his car again, this time rolling over Hussainy’s foot.

“At that point, [Larivière] got out of his car and brandished a telescopic baton and threatened the owner of the second vehicle and his spouse and and starting hitting their car at least a dozen times with the baton, breaking all windows,” Sgt. Jean said. “At this point [Hussainy] took some kind of baton and started hitting [Larivière]. At this point [Larivière] started hitting the [unidentified] driver of the second car with his telescopic baton.”

“After police arrived, they arrested Larivière and Hussainy and arranged to transport the unidentified third person to hospital to treat non-life-threatening wounds,” he added.

“People should avoid coming to blows. If they’re having trouble communicating, it’s better to contact Laval Police,” Sgt. Jean concluded. “If it’s a criminal matter we’ll take care of it. Sometimes, if it’s just a city bylaw that’s in dispute, we can either apply it or guide them toward a solution through the courts or a city department. Above all, please don’t get into a physical confrontation that risks injury and criminal charges.”
