Pointe Claire based StarDanzNYC will be hosting its first ever dance convention for youth from ages eight to 25, at Holiday Inn Suites in Pointe Claire on Nov. 8 and 9. The gathering will feature classes given by New York talent to as many as 600 West Island young people who are interested in show business.
According to New York’s Maureen Brown and Kirkland’s Mary De Santis owners of StarDanzNYC, bringing dance professionals from New York to Montreal makes economic sense.
“We are bringing New York to the West Island,” Brown explained to The Suburban in an interview,” our dancers will range from the novice to the pre-professional. They will come in all shapes and sizes. They will come together for an exclusive, dance workshop experience.”
According to DeSantis there will be five partial scholarships granted by Be Discovered, a net work website for auditions and networking. Each partial $1,000 scholarship will be applied to intensive training session in Florida, where the student will participate in a Disney parade, New York, a Broadway play and California, a music video.
The Pointe Claire conference will cost $175 and registrations has already begun. The first 50 competitive dancers will receive free adjudication. Information and registration forms can be found at www.stardanznyc.com.
