No Auditions — only a love of music is required to join the Musicanto Choir. Starting the week of Sept. 18, the Musicanto Choir is offering a two week trial for all children ages eight to 16 for only $20. Should the child wish to remain for the entire session lasting until December, the initial fee is applied to the cost of registration fee of $150. A second session is offered from January to May.
Choir director and founder Johanne Poirier-Ledoux, better known as Mme. Jojo, opened up a second location of her choir school in Laval this past January. Originally a teacher for Edinburgh school in Montreal West, Poirier-Ledoux opened up her first location in Montreal West in 2011. The school was originally specifically for the children of Edinburgh school but two years ago was opened up to the community at large.
The Musicanto Choir provides opportunities for performers to sing for others in the community. In the past the choir has sung at Place Ville Marie, several seniors’ residences and Ste. Justine’s Hospital. There is no limit to how many children are welcomed. Songs are performed in English, French, Italian, and on occasion Hebrew and Spanish. Depending on the program playlist children may have the chance to sing solos, duets, trios and harmonies to accompany the choir.
Practices take place every Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Salle des Chevaliers de Colomb located at 400 Principale, Ste. Dorothée. First practice will be Tuesday, Sept. 16.
