Flags at the offices of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough will be flying at half mast to honour the recent passing of Roxboro’s last serving mayor, Ovide T. Baciu. Baciu held the mayoral post for 12 years, starting in 1992 right up until the forced mergers of 2002.

“It is with great emotion that I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. T. Ovide Baciu,” said Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Dimitrios (Jim) Beis via press release. “This great man was to me a model, a friend, my mentor.

“There are few people we meet on our path who are so influential in shaping the course of our lives. His accomplishments for the betterment of the citizens of Roxboro, his memory, the memory of a man involved and his humanism will remain ever present,” added Beis.

The former Roxboro mayor was the guest of honour at February’s centennial anniversary celebration for the former city and was able to see old colleagues including Beis who worked with Baciu during Beis’ tenure for the Roxboro recreation department.

Baciu’s memory will be honoured this coming Saturday when the borough hosts Roxboro Day.

“Citizens and the organizing committee of the day will definitely have a good thought for him on this occasion,” noted Beis.
