Grade 10 Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School student Akshay Grover has planned a unique way to spend his summer vacation this year. He doesn’t plan to endure a long drive to Toronto with family; he plans to run the 550 km route during the first two weeks of August as a way to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Canada Foundation.

The intrepid young man has been running since the age of eight and his goal to run from Montreal to Toronto came from a personal project requirement in Grover’s International Baccalaureate program. “The headquarters of the CCCF are in Toronto and when I get there, I plan to give them a cheque,” Grover told The Suburban.

He hopes to raise $10,000 for his efforts and if his promotional video is any indication, Grover is dedicated. With his logistical team comprised of his mother and volunteers, Grover will run the equivalent of a marathon a day for the 14-day trek as well as making a documentary of the voyage.

“We are thrilled that Akshay is raising funds and awareness for Childhood Cancer Canada with each kilometre he runs,” said Jessica MacInnis, spokesperson for CCCF. “With the support of incredible people like Akshay, we are able to help the 10,000 children currently living with cancer in Canada today.”
