The City of Laval confirmed its renewal to the program Les Fleurons du Québec (FQ) for the next three years and invites citizens to beautify their environment in an effort to gain a higher level of classification.

It is with pride that the municipality had obtained in 2011, three jewels out of a possible five, valid until 2013. Renewal of the membership will guarantee a visit from the judges of FQ to rate the new classification.

The judges will visit at least 60 percent of the territory and evaluate the city on horticultural and landscaping gardens that are visible to the public. The evaluation criteria are impacted by cleanliness, maintenance, a variety of horticultural elements and the visual state of the municipal landscape.

Points awarded by the evaluators are divided into five areas:

• Municipal
• Residential
• Institutional
• Commercial and Industrial
• Community Initiatives and Sustainable Development

The spirit of the horticultural classification by FQ is a formal recognition of the efforts of the whole community and for the long-term a more attractive, healthier and greener environment for the city.

Launched in 2006, the program was an immediate success and has grown steadily ever since; today it includes 382 municipalities in all regions of the province and reaches more than 54 percent of Quebecers.
