Three years after the launch of a pilot project, the deployment of wireless Internet access (wi-fi) within the Société de transport de Laval (STL) is still pending but the STL is estimating the arrival of the service by the beginning of 2015 at the latest.

The introduction of wi-fi service will be in collaboration with the implementation of the STL companion application. The service originally involved a desire to assist public transit users with physical or audio disabilities to optimize and secure their travel. The app would allow the beneficiary to receive messages and alerts on a Smartphone that will guide him throughout his travel, by giving clear audio and or visual instructions.

Geotagging will track the movement of the participants. If the situation requires, the STL contact may intervene in the process and, if necessary, provide any required help.

The service carrier will also offer its regular customers a lighter version of the app for its new users. The implementation of this feature will require the availability of wi-fi on STL vehicles.
