Fritz farm welcomes 70 guests

Mayor Maria Tutino welcomed 70 guests at Fritz Farm on Thursday, April 17, in recognition of the contribution of the 300 volunteers to the Baie d’Urfé community.
“It is because of you, that set Baie d’Urfé apart, and we are so thankful of your efforts,” stated a proud Mayor Tutino, addressing the citizens.
With 1,423 private dwellings, and a population of 3,850, volunteers make up eight percent of its residences.
Baie d’Urfé volunteers are always ready to lend a hand to 11 of its associations, such as the aquatic and boating club, the charitable campaign agency, the citizens association, the rescue squad, and the tennis club, in making certain their citizens have the highest standard of living. They are integral to the Baie d’Urfé way of life, an invaluable resource that residents can always count on.
Programs like the junior council, 24-hour security throughout the year, and running the annual three day Baie d’Urfé festivities are all volunteer driven.
The library opened in 1958, as a volunteer undertaking, linked with the arts and crafts association and the town.
It became a separate institution in 1973 and remains so today. Originally, members were charged, but now residents have free access.
“The library has 75 volunteers, and everyone is wonderful with time given in making it run smoothly,” said Library coordinator, Elise Titman.
The Baie d’Urfé Citizens on Patrol program, (VCOPS) seeks to help the town to be the safest one on the island of Montreal, and to enhance community pride, involvement, safety, and security.
“The program has 34 volunteers. We have the manpower to assist in town activities,” said VCOP director, Brian Ross.
A dozen gifts, all donations, were raffled off by town staff to the very grateful residents in attendance.
