Robert Poeti, a former police officer of the Sûreté du Québec who has been representing the Marguerite Bourgeoys riding since 2012, has been re-elected with more than 25,000 votes, which represents 70 per cent of the vote.

My dear LaSalle electors, thank you for having confidence in me again,” he wrote on his Twitter feed later Monday evening.

Poeti went into the election with a strong profile, both provincially and locally. As the official opposition critic for public security, he’s spent the last year commenting about the Charbonneau Commission, young offenders and the Benoît Roberge arrest. Locally, he’s popular with the local Greek and Italian communities and has spoken at various community organization functions since he was elected to represent the riding.

The voter turnout in Marguerite Bourgeoys, which has voted Liberal in provincial elections since the riding was created in 1965, was an all-time high of 72 per cent.
