More than 200 guests converged on Casa Grecque, on Daniel Johnson, March 18, for a fundraiser to benefit sick children.

The restaurant gave five dollars for every meal it served to the Alesia’s Magnolias Foundation.

According to founder Sheyda Senoglu the Alesia’s Magnolias event raised approximately $1,500 for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Senoglu decided to fundraise for the hospital four years ago, after her daughter, Alesia Stravroula Karidogiannis, died of a rare heart disease.

“I put her down for her nap and she never woke up,” she recalled.

Life changed forever for her family on that day. Since then, the family banded together with the community to raise funds to help families who are going through similar experiences. The goal four years ago was to raise $400,000. To date the amount raised toward that goal is at $170,000 and growing.

All Alesia’s Magnolias donations go to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. The money raised so far has gone towards a patient room and a heart monitor machine.

Newly raised funds will go towards construction a waiting-area playroom for day surgery patients and their parents at the new McGill University Hospital Centre Superhospital, which will be named after Alesia.

Upcoming April 6 fundraiser

On April 6, Alesia’s Magnolias will hold its fourth annual indoor fun fair at the Palace Convention Centre located at 1717 le Corbusier Blvd., Laval.

Included in the festivities will be inflatables, cartoon characters, magical makeovers, face painting, live music and food galore.

Tickets are on sale now for $15 per person. More information is available at www.alesiasmagnolias.com and on Alesia’s Magnolias’ Facebook page.
