When Barbara Barclay received a call from the NOVA store in Beaurepaire about a historical photo album, the president of the Beaurepaire-Beaconsfield Historical Society knew it was too good to pass up, despite the almost prohibitive cost.

Barclay acquired the photographic album that contains more than 100 photos from World War l and will be used by the Historical Society for next Remembrance Day and the city of Beaconsfield’s unveiling of Heroes Park and Cenotaph.

And while the photographs are incredible and rare, Barclay would “like to give credit for this wonderful collection but I am told it just turned up without any indication of its donor.

“Rare book dealers were interested in the collection which prompted us to purchase it but we would like to honour the person who donated the photographs,” Barclay told The Suburban.

Barclay is arranging to have the rare and ancient photographs retaken so that the new prints can be safely shown to the public while the originals are held in a safety deposit box “o they do not come into contact with the air, moisture, or fingerprints I have been told by an expert” noted Barclay.

The photos will be displaced in the Beaconsfield Library’s Media Room “along with a growing and varied collection of other WWI artifacts including rifles and medals on loan from members of the community.”

The WWl exhibit will serve to recognize ” the value behind one of the most important events in history, parallel with the inauguration of the cenotaph in the park which is currently known as Shore Park as well as recognizing the many citizens of Beaconsfield who fought in WWI as well as those who gave their lives.”
