Laval Alzheimer’s Society has been busy for the past year rebuilding its website, and its new Internet look is slated to appear online next week, event coordinator Diane Tremblay told The Suburban.
“We have been working on the new English website and revamping our French website as well,” she said in an interview. “They will both be unveiled at the same time.”
As The Suburban reported last year, the Laval Alzheimer’s Society was able to make the information at its disposal more readily available to English-speakers via the Internet, thanks to support by Laval’s regional health authority, known as the Agence de santé et des services sociaux de Laval.
In-home assessments introduced
“We will also be offering new services, both in French and English,” Tremblay said. “Home visits.”
“Experts will drop in at Alzheimer’s victims’ homes, assess their needs and determine how they can be helped,” she explained.
“In addition, one night a week English-speakers are invited to attend our coffee-chat evenings, where there will be English-speaking experts on hand, so they will be able to talk to them in the language of their choice,” Tremblay continued.
“We have many Italian-speakers from the community as well who have come to join us,” she added.
Tremblay also announced that this year Laval Alzheimer’s Society plans to add a running event to its annual walkathon fundraiser, slated for Sunday, May 25.
“Everyone is so into running that in addition to the memory walk, this year for the first time we hold a memory run as well,” she said. “It will be a real, professional run, with all that entails.”
The starting line venue has changed to Horizon high school in Ste. Rose this year, Tremblay said, after last year’s cold and rain put a damper on an event that usually attracts up to 800 participants.
“We’ve arranged to conduct registration inside the gymnasium, in case of inclement weather,” she said, “which will permit us to accommodate 1,200 people.”
For the third year in a row, the Metro grocery chain will be contributing a free hot dog barbecue lunch in the school cafeteria, as well as beverages for participants.
“We will also have clowns on hand for entertainment, as well as a few surprises,” Tremblay enthused.
More information about the event is available on the organization’s soon-to-be updated website at: www.alzheimerlaval.org
