The boroughs of LaSalle and Verdun will present their budgets and propose service taxes during extraordinary meetings of their councils set for Jan. 9.

Both boroughs must present their 2014 budgets and regulations imposing new taxes prior to adopting them. Presumably, both need them approved by Montreal’s executive council before Montreal city council meets on Jan. 27.

LaSalle’s first meeting of the year takes place on Monday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Verdun has notified citizens that it will adopt its service taxes at an second extraordinary meeting on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. It’s first meeting takes place on Feb. 4.

LaSalle’s 2014 budget meeting will take place at 7 p.m, Jan. 9. Citizens who have questions about the document will also be able to ask them during this meeting. A second meeting will take place at 8 p.m. to pass bylaws imposing two taxes: a service tax and a second tax that takes up the “fiscal space” transferred by the central city of Montreal to boroughs.

Verdun councillors will present their 2014 budget at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9.

Their resolution about an additional service tax meeting will occur at 7:30 the same evening. That second meeting will also include discussions about making exceptions for the school on Nun’s Island so that construction can get underway in March.
