Residents within the five city territory of Station 1 are being advised to be extra careful when making ATM withdrawals this holiday season as a gang of thieves have been targeting bank machine customers and holiday shoppers.

Officers have found out that a group of three or four individuals have been casing shoppers and approaching them once they return to their vehicles gift laden. Using distracters or asking mundane questions, a second perpetrator rifles through the complainant’s wallet, purse or goods.

Another tactic is to puncture a potential victim’s tire and then follow them the distance it requires the driver to notice something is wrong with the vehicle.

Station 1 suggests that shoppers be aware of any potential concerns prior to withdrawing funds from a bank machine and to lock your car doors once you have entered your car, preventing unwanted visitors.

Dollard des Ormeaux citizens have been cautioned to prepare their homes if they are leaving town for the holidays with a series of cues including make sure a neighbour or family member will shovel your home in the event of a snow storm, make sure all windows and doors, outdoor sheds included, are locked as well as installing timed lights for both inside and outside lights.
