Four councillors for the Dorval Action Team were acclaimed and will be joined by Mayor Edgar Rouleau and colleagues Heather Allard and Margo Heron for another mandate after an easy victory for Rouleau, taking 86 per cent of all votes cast in Sunday’s municipal election. Rouleau defeated political newcomer Marc Barrette by 4,012 votes to 664.
“We still had to fight,” Rouleau told The Suburban. Rouleau acknowledged the four acclaimed Councillors, Claude Valiquet, Michel Hébert, Daniel Da Chao and Marc Doret for still going door to door to meet with constituents to find out what the needs and concerns were.
“The results show that overall, people are happy with the way we are managing their city,” said Rouleau.
“We never like to do battles in the media and have always taken care to deal with issues proactively,” said Rouleau. “We answer e-mails, letters and calls promptly.”
Now that the election campaign is history, Rouleau and his council will begin work on the city’s 2014 budget as well as preparing for the city’s major project next year, the new sports centre.
The mayor’s focus will also to be upgrading some of the city’s infrastructure, such as the Sarto Desnoyers Community Centre and other buildings, some of which “are 70-80 years old and need some TLC,” said Rouleau.
Another priority for the mayor is to prepare tenders for the eventual reconstruction of Dorval Avenue.
