Pierrefonds-Roxboro mayoral candidate Jim Beis who is running under the Équipe Denis Coderre banner was at the Pierrefonds-Roxboro train station Thursday morning with his potential boss to meet with commuters and to discuss public transportation with reporters.
Beis was joined along with councillor candidates Claudine Campeau, Catherine Clement-Talbot Yves Gignac and Jean Raymond. “We are here today because public transportation has become a major issue in the West Island,” Beis said, his backdrop the many parking lots associated with the station that are filled to capacity every morning.
Beis noted that “there needs to be more parking for train commuters as well as access points throughout the borough so that people can get a shuttle to the train without worrying about trying to find a place to park. People could park elsewhere for the shuttle service.”
Coderre wants collective transportation to be a major priority by “working in concert with other municipalities to come to solutions instead of working as separate silos.”
“This is a local issue that affects all Montrealers and we want to sit at the table to decide what to do collectively,” said Beis. “Something that has never been done here before.”
Beis also thinks that the construction of the 440 urban boulevard would help to alleviate some traffic congestion for motorists. “Traffic congestion and better access to public transportation are what many people are talking about during this election but we want to do more than just talk,” said the Pierrefonds-Roxboro mayoral candidate.
A more cohesive bike path that can link municipalities, including shopping areas, schools and train stations is something else Beis wants to work towards. “The current system was built with no thoughts towards connecting paths together.”
Also present at the station was Christian Dubois, running for mayor of Pierrefonds-Roxboro under the Coalition Marcel Côté team, who was campaigning with a few of his council hopefuls. Dubois had been at the train station “to help spread the word and we’ve been doing door to door visits. We are working hard with a good team.”
