Last year, the Beaurepaire Village Business Association’s (BVBA) inaugural Ghost Run brought in over $1,500 in donations that benefitted the West Island Cancer Wellness Center and NOVA West Island. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 starting at noon.

“We are expecting up to 300 attendees this year as we have teams running,” said BVBA President Hilarie Harubin. The 5 km distance can be walked but Harubin noted that some runners, even though they are dressed in Halloween get ups, “take it competitively.”

But the race will offer some surprises as students from John Abbott College’s Professional Theatre Department will be dressed in proper zombie gear and hiding out in various crocks and crevices throughout the route, along with 40 volunteers ensuring that the event goes off without a hitch.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three racers as well as best dressed child and dog. A barbecue and bake sale will also be on site and there will be face painting stations as well.

With the increased number of runners, Harubin is hoping to raise more funds for the two non profit associations, hoping at least doubling last year’s success.
