Lachine mayoral candidates

Having served as Mayor of Lachine for the last 12 years, incumbent Claude Dauphin is running with a slate of candidates under the Équipe Dauphin Lachine party banner, designed to take care of Lachine residents concerns first and foremost. Challenging him for his job is Projet Montréal–Équipe Bergeron’s Patricia Bossy and independent Pierre Ene.

While Dauphin and his team prepare to release their electoral platform, he spoke to The Suburban about his priority to improve public transportation for the borough. As a former president of the STM and current president of the Canadian Federation of Municipalities, “the issue of public transportation, particularly with the coming Turcot construction, is very important and we need more than reserved bus lanes.”

Dauphin spoke about the AMT’s recent $12 million commitment to creating a train station for Lachine but noted that the real and only solution will be to acquire “double the rail lines so that we are not in competition with CP like we are now and implement the Train De L’Ouest project.”

Talking to constituents during recent door to door visits, Dauphin said that residents “are happy with the Express bus but for those who work or would like to run errands in Montreal, they want the bus to run on weekends.”

Patricia Bossy has lived in Lachine for more than two decades and is the director of a special education program helping students with learning difficulties master the French language.

She has worked for many years on a number of non-profit organizations including serving with the Comité Logement Lachine-LaSalle as well as Comité de lutte contre la pauvreté à Lachine. Bossy would like to see more transparency in local government as well as getting more information directly to citizens. Some of Bossy’s improvements include “web diffusion of municipal council meetings and publish agenda prior to meetings to let citizens know what decisions are being voted on.”
