Pointe-Claire resident Krysia Gallien certainly understands the beauty and excitement which surround her environment. She accomplishes this by using nature as a focus. “I want my work to appeal to the most essential need we have to reconnect through art to our real selves”. Gallien, a former teacher, who created a Holistic center in 1981, and taught yoga, healing arts, Mandela workshops, has decided to devote her time and energy in bringing things to life through her watercolor paintings.

Her career is influenced by Oriental scrolls. This art form dates back 2000 years. It depicts the extraordinary beauty that can be found in the simplest of settings.

“My body of work embodies the feeling of abundance and celebration,” said Gallien. “I often paint bouquets and flowers. When words are not enough, emotion can be conveyed in the pure vibration of color. I like color to tell the story and set the tone.”

Gallien will be exhibiting her series of works through Acts of Grace/Action of Grace, a play on the French term for Thanksgiving from Oct. 1-Nov. 3 at the Beaconsfield library

“The idea of grace appeals to me, implying both the gratitude for inspiration received and the search to express beauty in art. Every painting is an act of grace meant to pass on that inspiration to the viewer,” added Gallien.

Krysia prefers to create larger paintings which impact the environment by using rich colors which excite and uplift the spirit. Her typical works are illustrated in dimensions of 30” x 30”.

Gallien has exhibited widely around the city and the West Island since she took up her vocation as an artist to full time status six years ago. Her solo shows in 2012, included Six Weeks, Six Windows at Art en Ciel gallery in Westmount and the solo show Zen Heart, Zen Mind at Kirkland library.

“I like the opportunity to show my work in a solo show. It gives the artist an opportunity to make a powerful and personal statement.” Gallien told The Suburban.

The vernissage is on Sunday, October 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Beaconsfield Library, 303 Beaconsfield Blvd. Telephone: [514] 428-4400.
