Paul Chablo wants to bring north and south sectors together

Former Station 1 police commander Paul Chablo has lived in Sainte Anne de Bellevue for the last 15 years and when people ask where, he gives his street name as an answer, not that he lives in the northern sector, but because it’s a division he wants to break down if he is elected mayor for the city in the upcoming November elections.
“You don’t hear about a northern and southern division in other municipalities and while the two parts may have different needs, both have the same concerns for more activities for youth, safety and accessibility to parks,” Chablo told The Suburban.
Chablo was commander of Station 1 in the late nineties and also worked in communications as well as the anti-terrorism squad. He retired from the force three years ago and now teaches police operations at John Abbott College’s Police Technology program. He believes his experience with emergency preparedness as well as “managing large budgets in the past will help with cost effective management of the citizens’ tax dollars at city hall.”
And while he is not a regular council attendee, Chablo prepares to speak to councilors about issues in a one on one format because “the city has a lot of potential and I want to be part of the solution rather than showing up and only complaining.”
His platform will include increased police presence in the area, especially Thursday nights when “the students tend to party and while they have the right to do so, they have a responsibility to the citizens.”
The former police officer also feels that the onus is on the bar owners who “have a responsibility not to serve to minors or allow patrons to become publically intoxicated.”
Chablo also wants to provide more extracurricular programs for the 13-to-17-year-old set in a youth forum “to come up with more activities as some parents have told me that when their children get to that age, they move to Kirkland or Beaconsfield, which provide more programs for young teenagers. Something can be done for this age group in Sainte Annes.”
In terms of emergency response and communications towards residents, Chablo wants to improve information to citizens in real time via text messages with residents who give their e-mail addresses. For council issues such as the proposed development in the northern section, “you cannot pass a single issue that affects citizens without consulting them properly first. I want to work proactively to achieve development intelligently with a green touch.”
