Parti au Service du citoyen (PSC) mayoral contender Robert Bordeleau has presented his party’s latest candidates for city council.

They include human resources executive Daniel Doyon, who will run for PSC in Autheuil district; aerospace engineer Éric Heuser, who will carry the PSC banner in Bois de Boulogne; and Lebanese-Canadian mechanical engineering student and federal Liberal Party activist Étienne Sakr joined the PSC team in Laval des Rapides.

The trio fills vacancies in the PSC electoral team prompted by prominent defections.

As reported in The Suburban three weeks ago, PSC’s former candidate in Laval des Rapides, Barek Kaddouri, pulled the plug the day after news reports resurfaced about sales tax that Bordeleau’s firm owes to Quebec in the wake of a business deal gone sour.

Kaddouri’s departure influenced his close friend Michel Cantin’s decision to withdraw from the PSC fold. The high school teacher and football coach will henceforth run as an independent in Auteuil district.

In addition, Guatemalan-Canadian Juana Laurin decided to jump ship and run instead for city councillor and mayoral candidate Claire Le Bel’s newly formed Option Laval party.

During the last Laval election in 2009, Le Bel ran as a candidate on former mayor Gilles Vaillancourt’s Parti PRO ticket, though she quit his party in November, soon after allegations of systematic wrongdoing surfaced.

Last week’s nominations bring the PSC slate back up to its full complement of 21 candidates, six of whom are women.

Bordeleau capitalized upon the announcement to accentuate his commitment to the youth vote.

“PSC takes the lot of Laval youth to heart and intends to put our young people at the top of our priority list,” he underscored.
