Lachine resident Elona Kogan is so proud of living in her community that she has decided to share that love and neighbourhood pride by nominating the borough of Lachine in a nationwide contest seeking the country’s best neighbourhood.
The contest is being run by the Canadian Institute of Planners and Kogan, a social worker by trade, wanted to nominate Lachine for more than its park and lovely waterfront but also for the inclusive nature of the community.
Kogan cited the Place des Arts level of talented musicians that have performed outdoor concerts where a donation is asked but no concertgoer is ever turned away.
“If you want to be kept busy, you can do something in Lachine all of the time,” said Kogan.
Other attractions that make Lachine unique for the 20-plus year resident is that “the waterfront is more open here as there are some municipalities” where you cannot get access to the waterfront at all.
Kogan hopes that the contest shows “the beauty and kindness of Lachine, a best kept secret” deserves its title best neighbourhood in Canada.
