The West Island Cancer Wellness Centre (WICWC) held a fundraising event called An Evening at the Vineyard, Aug. 28. The event welcomed more than 100 people to the Vignoble Côte de Vaudreuil, who enjoyed a taste of local wine and a tour of the vineyard with the owners Serge Primi and Christiane St-Onge.

Ticket sales, combined with a sponsorship by Caisse Desjardins des Sources-Lac St. Louis, meant that the evening raised over $21,000.

Spokesperson Elizabeth Sanderson commented “it was an extraordinary backdrop with the vines being lit by the golden sun. A beautiful evening with a beautiful venue.”

The WICWC hosts a range of fundraising events including their annual golf tournament, which last year raised over $190,000. Now in its fourth year, the next tournament will be held later this month, and the team is set for another big event.

The WICWC, which receives no government funding and relies purely on fundraising initiatives, was established as a registered charity in 2008. The focus of the organization is to empower people who are experiencing cancer by providing them with support and information.

Since its official opening in 2009, the Centre has registered over 650 participants and has impacted the lives of thousands of West Island and surrounding area residents who are battling cancer as a patient or caregiver.
