Independent Search Engines in France

There are many search engines in France that cover civil registers, parish registers, tables décennales, notarial acts among other subject matters.

One such free search engine is Gironde Entraide Généalogique – a genealogical search engine, free to anyone, which was organized by Pierre Moreau a few years back and with the help of more than 210 volunteer researchers or small regional genealogy societies.

The latter did not have the necessary financing or the webmasters capable of programming and carrying out the maintenance of their own search engines. This web site is easily searchable with parish and civil registers going back to 1596. Other categories are also offered within this search engine.

Other free search engines include:

• Gendep23, a web site organized by a Jean-Luc Joly, said search engine covering the département de la Creuse.

• Géniale Généalogie du 71 a web site organized by Marie-Reine Métratin featuring the regions of Saône et Loire.

• Notaires21 a web site organized by Philippe Duchâtel, a search engine which concentrate uniquely with notaries and their notarial acts.

• Géna30 a web site organized by Jean-Louis Praden about the southern region of Gard.
