According to a report released on Monday by Journal de Montreal, the Pointe Claire based company Reliance Power Equipment has been illegally storing some of its stock that is laced with PCBs.
The company’s website noted that its main function “involves the repairing, reconditioning, modifying, remanufacturing, renting and reselling of used electrical power equipment.”
The site also explained that the Reliance Power Equipment, in the last four decades, has “accumulated an extensive and comprehensive array of complete units and replacement parts on our premises.”
The Journal report also noted that the company has been storing the PCB laced transformers for more than a decade without the consent of the city of Pointe Claire or the Ministry of Environment and that the company has been given a week to safely and properly get rid of the offending materials.
As of press time, no charges towards the company had yet been filed.
