Vaudreuil-Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon will be seeking a third mandate to fulfill many projects he and his council have committed to in order to improve the lives of its ever growing population.

Vaudreuil-Dorion is experiencing the highest birth rate in the province and Pilon wants to make sure that there is plenty of activities for the younger set as well as the many adolescents to come in the near future.

“It takes a long time to take an idea and bring it towards a solution,” Pilon told The Suburban.

“And if I step down now, the next mayor would be able to take credit for at least 10 projects we’ve started.”

Some of the recent initiatives, besides the new state of the art fitness centre but also purchasing new equipment for the city that include a new synthetic athletic field to accommodate soccer and football enthusiasts.

“We will also be installing a new skating park and the Dorion sector has to be re-build as we have to plan for the municipality’s next 15 to 20 years,” Pilon said.

As for densification, Pilon said that there is about four years left of residential development before the city reaches its population peak. Pilon, who also owns his own business, wants to attract more industry to order to give residents the option of working and living in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

He sees the huge private investment of Erickson, a project that was a year in the making, that will bring $1.3 billion to the region as a great first step and hopes to attract other national and international companies to set up in Vaudreuil-Dorion, allowing “new companies to give people the choice to work here for a better quality of life.”

Pilon also plans to work to improve public transportation for the area and to follow along with many constituents tell him when he sees them outside of the council chamber at the grocery store or arena. “People are telling me that they like and share my vision and that they want me to continue as mayor,” Pilon said.
