The Paris Archives are one of the oldest archives in Continental Europe.

Access them via the main siteTables décennales or Registres de catholicité de plus de 100 ans.

In May of 1871 a major fire destroyed a portion of the city of Paris, including the Archives de Paris and the Judicial Archives of Paris. Since then, hundreds of volunteers have reconstituted in part the civil and parish registers of the city of Paris including the 20 arrondissements (boroughs) of the city. Of the eight million acts of births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, notarial acts loss during the fire, only ⅓ were reconstituted, or about 2,696,000 acts of birth, baptism, marriage and death.

If your ancestor or ancestors originated from Paris prior to 1871, your genealogical search endeavours might be unfruitful.
