Laval police said that they found juvenile pornography on the computer of Chomedey resident Jonathan Moindon, 33, whom they arrested May 23, after they raided his Jarry Street home.
According to Const. Franco di Genova, a tip from Interpol—the world’s largest international police information-sharing organization—brought the alleged kiddie porn distributor to their attention.
“He has no criminal background and was not known to us,” he told The Suburban in an interview. “Interpol called the [RCMP’s] National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC) and told them that they had identified an Internet address in Laval that was in possession of juvenile pornography and distributing videos.”
“We obtained a search warrant after NCECC informed us, and two Laval detectives, accompanied by patrol officers and a police computer expert, subsequently visited the suspect’s home,” said Const. di Genova. “It didn’t take long to find evidence.”
“Investigators arrested Moindon and brought him in for questioning, where he admitted to downloading juvenile pornography,” he continued.
Moindon remained in custody overnight and was subsequently charged with distributing child pornography. If he is found guilty of the crime, he would face a minimum one-year and a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
“He was released from prison on condition that he not frequent any school, daycare, park or any other place where children are present,” Const. di Genova added. “He also cannot use the Internet, have an Internet account, visit an internet café or remain anywhere Internet service is provided.”
Moindon is slated to appear in court again, Aug. 20.
