At a press conference held in the city of Montreal Monday morning, Ericsson Canada announced it will be building a new global ICT Centre to be located in Vaudreuil-Dorion and is expected to be open for business in 2015, bringing in 60 new jobs with expected annual income of more than a billion dollars.
According to Ericsson’s press release on the occasion, it noted that the new 40,000 square feet facility “will house the company’s complete portfolio enabling the research and development organization to develop and verify solutions, creating the foundation for the next generation technology and cloud-based services.”
“It is a special day for us as we celebrate 60 years of doing business in Canada and at the same time we announce the plan to build this high-tech centre which will be an important foundation for our future innovation,” said Ericsson Canada Inc. president Mark Henderson. “The ICT Centre represents our commitment to the region and will contribute to building the ICT ecosystem and competence in Canada.”
Quebec Premiere Pauline Marois was on hand for the announcement, acknowledging the provincial government’s investment of $10 million towards the company for its new construction. Ericsson Canada will also benefit from reduced Hydro rates.
“The future of Quebec and the greater Montreal area relies on the knowledge base, the training opportunities and the skills available locally and I welcome the establishment of Ericsson’s new global ICT Centre and see this as an example of what Quebec has to offer and a sign of confidence in our economy,” Marois said Monday morning.
