In recent allegations regarding construction workers in Laval, Laval Liberal caucus chairman Guy Ouellette voiced his opinion about Minister Agnès Maltais decision to not revoke Donald Fortin’s position as director general of the Conseil provincial du Québec des métiers de la construction (International).
In a press release, Ouellette stated that Maltais claims she removed Fortin from the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) board of directors. Ouellette claims that she only has sent him a letter informing him of his suspension.
“I asked her in the National Assembly whether she intended to revoke his position or if she will launch a criminal or police investigation regarding the allegations but we didn’t receive any answers,” Ouellette told The Suburban. “The way Minister Maltais acts, it seems she’s doing nothing and she’s trying to protect somebody, we don’t know why.”
Ouellette claims that last year, similar things happened concerning the construction workers in Laval, where allegations were made and the director general had his position revoked.
According to Bill 30, the bill aims “to eliminate union placement and improve the operation of the construction industry.”
“I want to make sure there will be some transparency regarding her decision and that an investigation will happen and will be taken seriously,” Ouellette said. “We need to put the minster in the corner and make sure she will respect and follow the rules regarding bill 30.”
Since Maltais took price, Ouellette claims in his release that “Minister Maltais has been trying to take credit for actions initiated by the previous Liberal government and has done nothing concrete in the fight against union placement.”
Ouellette states that so far the only actions Maltais claims she has taken is sending a letter stating there will be a review of the situation.
“Its not enough,” Ouellette said. “I think with the allegations you read or see on television there’s more to it then just a review. A complete criminal or police investigation is needed.”
