Over the course of the next two years, the Ministry of Transport (MTQ) will spend close to $89 million to improve the roads in Laval.
The Quebec government has announced that it will grant $88,867,000 from 2013-2015 to 19 construction projects in Laval.
The budget will allocate $3,037,000 to preserve roadways, $66,478,000 to maintain MTQ structures, $16,879,000 to improve road networks and another $2,474,000 for road development.
“If we look in the past, taxpayers spent $58.5 million in one year and $65 million in another on roads in Laval,” said Marilie Beaulieu Gravel, political advisor for the leader of Laval Liberal caucus Guy Ouellette. “When you look at it like that, we’re putting a lot less into the roads.”
The repairs will include the Lévesque Boulevard overpass over Highway 125; paving Highway 15—the northbound expanse this summer and southbound sec- tion in 2014—between Curé Labelle and Gideon-Ouimet and renewing the lighting system on Highway 25 and 440 bridges.
Beaulieu Gravel stated that most of the announcements made for repairs have already been made in the past.
“If you look at what they propose to do, some of it is just a continuation of last year’s work and even some from 2010.”
Highway 19, however, was not included in the repair plan, as it is scheduled for 2020.
