On May 12, members of Laval’s Greek community will choose who will represent them on the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal’s Laval Regional Council. Polling will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, 4865 du Souvenir.
According to HCGM, only paid-up, active members who reside in Laval will be permitted to vote.
According to HCGM spokesperson Fotis Komborozos, the Laval Regional Council acts as a community based organization that takes local matters into their hands.
“They deal with local schools, local churches and they help organize local events for the Greek community,” Komborozos said.
The Greek council also cooperates with several boards of directors in Laval and discusses issues at hand.
Nomination forms are available at the electoral commission as well as the HCGM, 4236 du Souvenir, from April 15 to 26. The office is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon and Fridays, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Volunteers are welcomed to help assist and prepare for the elections.
“The Greek council is very good for the community,” Komborozos said. “It really focuses locally and helps provide services for Greeks.”
