Pointe Claire continues to invest steadfastly in one of civilization’s greatest technological advances: sewers.

With last year’s upgrade of Pointe Claire’s sewer system along St. John boulevard now complete, the city is getting ready for more construction in 2013.

The most ambitious project aimed at bringing the city’s effluent network into the 21st century will involve building the first phase of a massive new sewage collector along Delmar and Hymus.

Known as the “Industrial Collector”, the $12.6 million project will run from the south side of Highway 40 and Hymus on Delmar as well as along Hymus between Delmar and Sources.

“It will also include the reconstruction of services such as drainage, sewer and water on Columbus and Leacock,” city clerk Jean-Denis Jacob told The Suburban in an electronic mail message.

“The work will be taking place during the summer and fall,” added Pointe Claire engineering director Guy Gauthier.

“During construction, parts of the streets will be open [to traffic] except for where we will be excavating,” he reassured.

“We are also looking to reconstruct services on Hampton Gardens and Lakeview,” Mr. Jacob continued. Drains, sewers and fresh water supplies there will be rebuilt at a cost estimated at $5.2 million.

Mr. Jacob added that the city also plans to rebuild Alexina, Embleton and Empress between Embleton and Maywood this summer, an estimated $3.9 million investment.

“This work will probably start in May, after the thaw period,” concluded Mr. Gauthier.
