Laval police are asking anyone who
might have witnessed a hit-and-run accident in Ste. Dorothée last month to help
them identify the driver.

According to Laval police Const. Nathalie
Lorrain, at about 5:45 p.m., Sept. 14, a
southbound white Nissan Sentra—possibly
a 2002 model—crossed into the oncoming
lane of Montée Champagne, north of Cléroux Boulevard about a kilometre from
des Bois Avenue, and struck a 42-year-old
cyclist.

“The driver was looking at a black object
that he was holding in the air with his
hand, and appeared to be texting,” she said.
“The cyclist left the road, trying to avoid a
collision, but was he struck by the car’s side
mirror and collapsed at the side of the
road.”

“The cyclist was severely injured,” Const.
Lorrain continued. “He was treated for broken ribs, a broken hip, a fractured collar-bone and bruising all over his body.”

Police describe the driver as a white
male, about 40 years old.

“The force of the impact probably broke
the driver’s side mirror,” Const. Lorrain
conjectured.

Laval police are urging anyone who has
information that will help in this investigation to call their information hotline [450]
662-INFO (4636) or dial 911 and quote file
number LVL 120914 090
