Laval Families Magazine have teamed up with Sir Wilfred Laurier School Board (SWLSB) to offer students a chance to participate in the creation of the book/CD of the children’s story The Golden Touch, based on the ancient Greek myth of King Midas’ golden touch and his lust for wealth.
The children from SWLSB will be accompanied by the Orchestre Symphonique Pop de Montreal as they record their vocal talents for the CD. Their voices will be incorporated into a story in which comedy plays out against tragedy, leaving us with a reminder that we live in a world rich in other kinds of gold.
Students will receive a copy of the book in which their names will be listed along with the recording.
Governor General Award winning author and lyricist Glen Huser of Vancouver and renowned composer Giannis Georgantelis of Athens have taken on the retelling of the story of King Midas. Illustration interpretations will be by three times Governor General Award winning illustrator Philippe Béha and the CD will be narrated by the legendary Terry Jones of Monty Python.
Though it is not compulsory to prepare for fall auditions it is recommended. Students can listen to the lyrics and accompaniment on the website to familiarize themselves with the songs. Applicants will be asked to perform simple vocal exercises.
Auditions will take place in September 2014. For those students who participate in the production, there will be a $75 fee.
