Laval’s drug squad, working in cooperation with North Shore police forces, have identified ten people who have been selling crack cocaine crystals.
“They have been working on a project called Operation COULOMBE since April,” Const. Franco di Genova told The Suburban in an interview. “On Dec. 12, they targeted ten people in a blitz, of whom three have been arrested. Another six to seven arrests are pending.”
“While they are not big-time operators, we had been seeing the same people involved over and over again,” he continued.
“Each person arrested was found to have small quantities of crack crystals in their possession. Two of them were known to us and the third person for some reason had been very low key and had not been on our radar.”
The crimes took place in St. François district in Laval’s east end, as well as in Chomedey.
“I’m confident that this will be a setback for these drug dealers during the months to come,” Const. di Genova said.
Drunk driving madness
Police are shaking their heads at the number of people whom they caught driving drunk in Laval, Dec. 14 to 16.
“We arrested nine people for driving while intoxicated,” reported Const. di Genova. “Two of them were at roadblocks. The other seven were pulled over by patrol officers who noticed suspicious behaviour about the vehicle and questioned the drivers.”
“That’s a lot of people,” he sighed.
“After so many years of public education,” Const. di Genova marveled, “it is a wonder that, as we approach 2013, so many people still fail to understand that they imperil other people’s lives as well as their own by taking to the wheel after imbibing alcohol.”
